6 Ways to Stay Motivated in Small Business
Small business owners can find themselves so deep in the running of their business that they lose sight of why they started their business to begin with. When the passion and motivation is lacking, we have a set of rules that we turn to bring us back on track.
1. Set a Goal
Goal setting is one of the most fundamental elements of measuring success. While setting outrageous, unrealistic goals can hinder growth and lead to disappointment, small achievable goals can be highly motivating.
Whether you set goals as part of a daily checklist, or financial targets, setting goals is powerful, motivating and allows small business owners to reflect and recognise their achievements. Set your intentions daily, weekly, or monthly and work towards achieving them.
2. Have a Mentor
A mentor can be someone in your field, or a friend whose business acumen and methods you respect. Someone to check in with who motivates, inspires and gives sound advice is a valuable tool and a fast way to reignite passion and inspiration for business growth.
3. Be Inspired
Do you keep a close eye on your competitors? You should. Knowing what is happening within your market is paramount to staying relevant, up to date with training and adapting to the climate in line with your peers. While we don’t recommend imitating your competitors, being inspired by others in your industry who do a great job can propel you forward in positive ways.
4. Network
Networking events aren’t for everyone, but there are many ways you can connect with likeminded professionals. Joining Facebook groups, attending virtual events, as well as trade shows and motivational seminars are easy ways to reinstate your position within your professional community. They can also be great team building opportunities.
5. Be Accountable
Don’t bury your head in the sand when it comes to numbers. Connect with your Accountant regularly and own your bottom line. Speaking openly with someone who understands figures, taxes, and your KPI’s can keep you in check and on track to reach your financial goals.
6. Focus on your Strength
Small business owners often wear many hats. If your talent is to be client facing, on the tools, or managing staff, refocus on your strengths and spend time excelling in this area once again. It’s important to remember why you started your business and what makes you feel passionate about your industry.
