As part of this investment, employers would be promised incentives worth an extra $4,000 — above and beyond the existing $4,000 incentives — to take on and complete new apprenticeships.
Under this proposed incentive, eligible occupations would include plumbing, bakers and pastry cooks, plasterers, carpentry, hairdressing, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics, bricklayers, vehicle painters, wall and floor tilers as well as arborists.
In terms of education, $62.4 million is to be allocated to boost language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills of adults and school leavers aged 15 to 44 years. Along with this, it was also announced that it would establish 10 training hubs to facilitate better connections between employers and up to 3,000 school students over four years. This is a great idea to improve the disconnect that currently occurs.
These, and other measures would be overseen by a new National Skills Commission, which would work in conjunction with state and territory governments to create a reliable national approach to vocational education and training.
