Labour pledges to fund free tax clinics
The federal opposition has proposed to fund 10 tax clinics to help small businesses, micro businesses and disadvantaged tax payers get in contact with the ATO’s administrative process. They will be channelling approximately $4 million to fund them.
The main goal from this is to ensure that disadvantaged tax payers have the ability to communicate and liaise with the ATO easier – they are also there to assist with any disputes that tax payers may have.
With one clinic already operating in Curtin University, it is said Labour is keen to continue funding this operation into mid 2019 and then open a further 10 clinics across the country at various Universities. Many of these tax clinics will be seeking some affiliation with ATO tax agents who will be able to claim a deductible by helping the free clinics.
