The Changing Face of Small Business
Small businesses are naturally evolving, and with the impacts of the past 12 months, many businesses have adapted and reassessed the way they work – focusing on the areas that really matter to the success of their business.
Given that 63% of small businesses claimed to have been negatively impacted last year, it’s positive to see such a strong bounce back – effectively representing the resilience of small business owners Australia wide.
To support this notion, here are some of the common changes we have seen our own small business clients strive for in the past 12 months.
1. Adapting Business Processes
Whether this means going online, virtual meetings, or incorporating delivery and contactless pick-up into their business model, we can’t deny our small business clients have evolved their business infrastructures to continue to serve their clients.
We have seen clients make the switch to online ordering, quoting and booking systems, in a matter of weeks. For those who haven’t adopted new integrated digital systems and software within their business, many are close to converting.
2. Contingency Plans
Now more than ever, small businesses are committing time to continuity and contingency planning. This is vital to ensure systems are in place to continue business when faced with restrictions and limitations caused by elements out of their control.
These plans may include systems implemented to allow project progression while in lock down, or systems to allow essential workers (of which many fall into the small business category) to maintain safety and wellbeing.
3. Community Support
From community collaboration to supporting your local tradesmen and cafes, the alliance between small business owners and their patrons has grown stronger. While consumers may hold tight to their purses, where they do spend their money really matters, and likewise between businesses.
From social media sharing to referrals, community support goes well beyond the exchange of money.
4. Job Satisfaction
Many of our clients have noticed a surge in vitality amongst employees as positive changes have inspired and motivated. New systems, processes and flexibility have led to positive changes for many, and this change is evident in job satisfaction for many employees and employers.
The newfound flexibility that working from home (when possible) has brought to many businesses is now highly valued among many, leading to increased work-life balance with less commuting and associated expenses.
We hope to see continued growth and dynamic changes for our clients as they strive for improved internal processes, adaptable planning and job satisfaction as they press forward to navigate a new financial year.
